HOLISTIC VIEW OF DISEASE
Realize that disease does not just happen; in most cases the problem has been present in the body for many months or even years; at times presenting as symptoms that one just chose to ignore or took medication to rid the discomfort. Ridding the discomfort through medication does not resolve the underlying cause however, it only masks the warning signs.
The warning signs are the body’s way of communicating that something is amiss.
The Homotoxicology view, which is based on six phases, helps us to understand the body’s innate mechanisms for dealing with toxins and maintaining health.
Homotoxicology View
1. Excretion Phase: The body beholds an innate intelligence and will make every effort to excrete an offending substance through the primary excretion organs (nose, mouth, bowels, lungs, bladder and skin). It is fundamental to encourage and support the body in its efforts of excretion because if the offending substance is not released in the excretion phase the body must go into the next mode of function; the inflammation phase.
2. Inflammation Phase: The inflammatory response (such as a fever) is an attempt to neutralize toxins. It is now understood that a fever up to 48.5 C will increase enzyme activity 10 fold. Enzyme production is again an attempt to rid the toxin.
3. Deposition Phase: If the toxin is not sufficiently excreted at the inflammation phase, the toxic product is stored in the extra cellular space. Often this phase occurs without symptoms.
4. Impregnation Phase: This occurs once toxins have invaded the cell and the toxins themselves become a part of the connective tissue and matrix. Increasingly severe symptoms are typical of this stage and indicate damage to organ cells.
5. Degeneration Phase: Toxins have become abundant within the cells destroying large cellular groups within an organ, resulting in organ degeneration.
6. Differentiation Phase: Illnesses in this phase are characterized by the creation of undifferentiated, non-specialized cell forms. Malignant diseases lie at the end of this phase.
In viewing the Homotoxicology phases it becomes clear that if the initial stress signals go unresolved or are masked by medication, the body has no option but attempt to address the underlying stressor at a deeper level/phase. If the body remains unable to resolve the stressor during any progressive phase, the situation finally results in complete cellular breakdown.
